Resumo

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn`s disease, have a high prevalence and morbidity worldwide. The IBD is characterized by presence of inflammatory markers (e.g., cytokines and cell infiltrates) and an impaired intestinal permeability. Despite multifactorial causes, nutrition seems to be relevant in the management of IBD. In addition, the cholinergic anti-inflammatory reflex by the α7 nicotinic cholinergic receptor (α7nAChR) can reduce proinflammatory cytokine expression mediated by JAK-STAT3 pathway leading to mitigate the IBD. However, our previous studies demonstrated a reduction in the α7 nicotinic cholinergic receptor (α7nAChR) content in the hypothalamus from mice exposed to high-fat diet (HFD) for short-term.
