Resumo

Depression is a disease characterized by loss of interest and pleasure in various activities, affecting about 5% of adults. One of its causes is the secretion of glucocorticoids and increased oxidative stress, and when present early in life, it can have long-term effects. Parkinson`s disease (PD) is caused by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the nigrostriatal pathway, lowering dopaminergic levels in the substantia nigra (SN). In it, neurodegeneration occurs years before the symptoms, and it is common to present unrelated signs, such as depression, which affects between 40 to 50% of cases. Therefore, depression may contribute to neuroinflammation and degeneration of dopaminergic neurons
