CHARACTERIZATION OF KLOTHO mRNA EXPRESSION IN THE HIPPOCAMPUS AND CORTEX OF DIFFERENTLY AGED 3xTg-AD MICE

Klotho (KL) protein has been described as neuroprotective and anti-ageing, having been associated with protection against several age-related diseases including neurodegenerative diseases. Klotho is expressed mainly in the kidney and brain, and while its functions in the kidney are somewhat well known to this day, its mechanisms in the brain remain elusive and require further studies. 3xTg-AD mice are a triple-transgenic model that is widely used in Alzheimer’s disease research. They harbor 3 mutations associated with familial Alzheimer’s disease (APPswe, TauP301L and Psen1).
