Resumo

Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a cluster of three or more metabolic disorders, such as glucose intolerance, overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, hypertriglyceridemia and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Mainly caused by the increase in sedentary lifestyle, technological evolution and exacerbated consumption of fructose-rich industrialized foods, MS is a public health problem and also affects the central nervous system. Evidence has shown that high fructose consumption impairs memory. Therefore, it is necessary to search for new therapies capable of modifying metabolic disorders and also the cognitive consequences of the syndrome. Caffeine supplementation has a potential to intervene in MS and cognitive consequences due to the therapeutic effects in risk factors associated with MS, such as control of hypertension and obesity through your thermogenic effect. Furthermore, caffeine also affects the central nervous system and may improve cognitive functions.
