Assessment of infant visual acuity from video-based eye tracking

The clinical evaluation of vision in infants is usually based on the preferential looking (PL) technique, in which a trained observer judges whether children are able to discriminate stimuli with different properties. Despite its popularity, some of its limitations include the inability of making the observer blind to the clinical condition being tested, the variability in results of exams made by multiple observers with the same patient, and the lack of precise control over stimulus parameters.
