ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY ASSESSMENT OF MELITTIN USING 99mTc-CEFTIZOXIME IN WOUND MODEL INFECTED WITH METHICILLIN-RESISTANT Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is responsible for almost half of all deaths related to multidrug-resistant pathogens and can cause serious clinical conditions if not treated appropriately. Therefore, the discovery and developments of new antibiotics are necessary. In this context, melittin, the main component of apitoxin, has a potent antibacterial effect. However, to the best of our knowledge there is little information in the literature regarding the potential of melittin in infection models.
