Resumo

Obesity increases the predisposition for the development of various diseases, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and various types of cancer, such as prostate cancer (PCa). Excess adipose tissue alters local inflammation and secretion of various adipokines as well as adiponectin. The use of exogenous adiponectin has a potent antitumor effect by repressing the proliferation of prostatic tumor cells. However, the production of adiponectin by the pharmaceutical industry is hampered by its variety of oligomeric forms and short half-life. Thus, studies have focused on the use of agonists, such as AdipoRon, capable of activating transmembrane adiponectin receptors, called AdipoR1 and AdipoR2. It has been demonstrated that AdipoRon is a potent therapeutic strategy for pancreatic cancer, ovarian, and bone cancer, but its action for PCa has not yet been described.
