α-TOCOPHEROL ANTIOXIDANT PREVENTS ANXIETY-LIKE BEHAVIOR AND OXIDATIVE STRESS INDUCED BY INDOMETHACIN

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are widely used to treat inflammatory diseases. Indomethacin (INDO) stands out being a medicament to treat pathologies such as rheumatoid arthritis, musculoskeletal injuries and osteoarthritis. Studies have shown that INDO is involved in damage to the gastric and hepatic systems, as well as damage to the central nervous system. Futhremore, INDO induces an increase in oxidative stress in the CNS, and this can generate anxiogenic effect. The relationship between INDO and anxiety has not been elucidated, but the oxidative stress intensified by this drug can be an important agent for inducing anxiety-like behavior.
