This paper aims to identify how reference journalistic outlets address the use of images generated by artificial intelligence from their institutional position regarding the technology. In this paper, we analyze manifestos published by five newspapers, three Brazilian (Folha de S.Paulo, O Estado de S.Paulo, and O Globo) and two foreign (The New York Times and The Guardian), in order to understand how this technology has impacted visual journalism. From an exploratory, qualitative, and comparative analysis, we identified that, in all vehicles, the guidelines are still quite broad and generalist; however, national newspapers present more assertive guidelines regarding the possible uses of AI for visual journalism than international newspapers.
