Abstract

The secondary metabolite coded as F1 is produced by the fungus Exserohilum sp and induced proliferative effect on mammalian cells (HUVECs and FN1) (De Souza et al., 2018). The compound was incorporated in a pharmaceutical formulation at 0.02 and 0.15 mM and its effect was evaluated in a wound healing murine model. Balb/c mice with dorsal surgical wound incisions of 10 mm2 were treated with the formulations for 1, 3, 7 and 14 days. Control consisted of three groups (untreated, treated with the commercial ointment Kollagenase, and empty formulation). After treatments, in comparison to the controls, both treated groups showed reduced wound size and the regenerated or new tissues formed presented an increase in the collagen production. Histological analysis by staining with H&E, picrosirius red and Masson´s trichrome, and also, scanning electron microscopy analysis showed a tissue reepithelization and effective regenerative process induced by the treatment with both F1 formulations.
