Abstract

Haematobia irritans considered an important cattle parasite in Brazil. Pyriproxyfen is recommended by WHO for controlling disease-carrying mosquitoes in drinking-water containers. The aim of the present study was evaluated the potential of pyriproxyfen to control of H. irritans in the bovine. For this, three groups were used. The first remained untreated. The second received 2.5 mg of pyriproxyfen orally, administered daily, for 12 days. The third received 40 mg of it in the same conditions. The pharmaceutical form used was constructed with 6 capsules linked by carboxymethylcellulose solution as “bolus” and was administered by a bolus applicator. The quantification in feces and plasma was performed by LC-MS/MS. The results show that pyriproxifen is mostly eliminated by fecal route in bovines and poorly absorbed by blood. Between 6 and 12 days after treatment the efficacy ranged from 57.9 to 81.2 % for G2.5 and 99.0 to 100.0 % on G40.
