Myrsine leuconeura is a medicinal plant used in traditional medicine for the treatment of urinary tract infections. The genus is characterized by the presence of compounds with significant effects in biological systems. The aim of present study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of M. leuconeura bark extract. The plant species was collected in Sacramento-MG. A voucher has been deposited in the Herbarium of UNAERP (HPMU 3079). The activity of samples was determinate by using solutions at different concentrations mixed with 0.04 mg/mL DPPH methanol solution. Absorbance was measured at 517 nm, after 15 min of reaction at 30ºC. The results were expressed as IC50. Ascorbic acid was used as positive control. The ethanolic extract showed antioxidant capacity in the DPPH assay, showing IC50 of 4.29 mg/mL. According to the chemical composition found in the Myrsine genus, it is possible to attribute this result to the presence of 1,4-benzoquinone derivatives.
