Abstract

Leishmaniasis is a public health problem in Brazil and the desease affects dogs and humans. According to the literarure furazolidone (FZD) shows activity against differents forms and strains of Leishmania. The aim of this study was to prepare and to characterize inclusion complexes between FZD and cyclodextrins (β-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin). A physical mixture and inclusion complexes prepared by kneading and lyophilization techniques, in the 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratios (FZD:CD), were evaluated using complementary techniques. The presence of interactions in the all products prepared with both CDs was confirmed by thermal analysis. A reduction in the cristalinity was noted to samples CLB2, CKH2, CLH1 and CLH2 by XDR but, the 13C solid state NMR was not adequate to prove these results. SEM mapping confirm the complex formation is samples CLB2 and CLH2.
