Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Cannabidiol (CBD) compatibility with oils commonly used as their carrier (olive oil, safflower oil, soy oil, sesame oil and Miglyol® 812N) in order to provide useful knowledge for the development of a lipid-based nanostructured product. Pure CBD and its binary mixtures (BM - 1:1(w/w)) with the oils were analyzed from 30 to 500°C under nitrogen atmosphere by TGA and DSC. The results revealed that CBD was soluble in all oils, since the DSC signal for its melting point (Tpeak 74.4 °C) disappeared in all BMs. The TGA of most oil samples showed similar behavior, due to their chemical composition, and were able to reduce CBD decomposition. However, Miglyol® 812N induced an early CBD degradation, a noteworthy incompatibility with a solvent/vehicle. Finally, the overall results allow us to suggest that olive, safflower, soy and sesame oil are suitable compounds for further evaluation as potencial lipofilic CBD carriers.
