Nitroimidazoles are an important class of compounds in medicinal chemistry and 5-nitroimidazoles is the main responsible for its therapeutic success. We report herein, the strategic of hybrids of metronidazole with Eugenol and the others similar compounds, all substances of great interest and widely reported in literature, with the aim of investigating their antiparasitic, antibacterial and cytotoxic properties. Our proposal is based on the molecular hybridization strategy, which usually promotes products with better therapeutic activities than the original two parts. Metronidazole was converted to its mesylated derivative and connecting provided all the phenolic ethers with satisfactory yields. So far, six final hybrids have been obtained, and others are in the process of purification and characterization. All of these products have been properly characterized and the biological study are in process, and will be reported timely, as well as the mechanism of action.
