Abstract

In view of the increase in suicide rates among young people in Brazil, preventive strategies in suicidal behavior are essential for the promotion of mental health. goal: This work sought to describe and reflect on the experience lived in the psychoeducational action developed in the "Yellow September", with the purpose of deconstructing stigmas about suicide and fostering mental health care strategies among young people from a social organization in Teresina-PI. methodology: It was a qualitative and descriptive study, with planning and execution of psychoeducational action that included integration dynamics, an interactive conversation circle about myths and truths of suicide, and a closing with reflections and information on psychological care services. findings: The action evidenced the creation of a safe space for dialogue, the strengthening of bonds, the deconstruction of myths and the appreciation of self-care, contributing to the promotion of the mental health of the participants and to the training of the Psychology students involved. However, it is emphasized that the promotion of mental health requires continuous, intersectoral actions supported by public policies. Final considerations: Psychoeducation and awareness of the subject are fundamental in the prevention of suicidal behavior, although care needs to be continuous and in-depth in different contexts
