Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis between the ecological brick (pressed soil-cement) and the traditional ceramic brick, considering technical, economic and environmental factors. The study examines characteristics such as mechanical strength, durability, thermal and acoustic performance, production cost, environmental impact, and possibilities for sustainable construction. The results indicate that the eco-brick offers significant benefits regarding sustainability, including the reduction of CO₂ emissions, the use of local primary materials, and the reduction of mortar consumption. In addition, it contributes to greater environmental comfort and appreciation of the cultural identity of the region.  On the other hand, although ceramic brick has a greater environmental impact, it offers greater standardization, resistance, and facilities in the market. It is concluded that the ideal choice depends on the regional context, the specific needs of the construction and the objectives linked to sustainable development. This research contributes to the debate on alternative construction techniques, seeking safer, more efficient and culturally appropriate solutions for the civil construction sector.
