The aim is to contribute to the discussion on Social Work and the Social Question in Piauí, considering the scarce scientific production on the subject at the local level. It is a theoretical discussion with authors of recognized contribution to the Social Work literature regarding the Social Question, as well as a bibliographical research on the profession and the expressions of the Social Question in Piauí and, finally, an experience report of the Social Work Memory Extension Program in Piauí, which promotes the recovery of memory and the reconstruction of the history of the profession, based on actions aimed at the preservation and socialization of historical and documentary heritage. Rescuing the trajectory of Social Work in the State has been fundamental to understanding the manifestations of the Social Question in the Piauí scenario and how they, over time, have been responded to by the State, society and social workers.
