However, competitive sport is not always synonymous with balance in the body, and may directly influence the nutritional and hydration status of athletes. The objective of the study was to describe, through the literature, the importance of knowing the nutritional status and hydration of athletes. A search was carried out through the sources constituted by electronic resources in the following databases: PubMed, BVS, Scielo and Google Scholar being published between the years 2013 to 2023, resulting in 40 articles. The results showed that most athletes still do not have ideal levels of hydration, thus highlighting the importance of adequate hydration strategies to optimize sports performance. It was concluded that maintaining body hydration and nutritional status play a key role in improving performance in this sport, especially in competitive scenarios.
