This study, an integrative review, sought to analyze the importance of caffeine as an ergogenic aid. Searches in the PubMed and BVS databases revealed that caffeine can have beneficial effects on anaerobic performance, including increased neuromuscular efficiency, reduced fatigue, improvements in mood and physical performance. However, the response to caffeine varies between individuals, taking into account factors such as sensitivity, tolerance and health status. It is concluded that more research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms involved and establish the ideal strategies for the use of caffeine in optimizing performance in physical activities.
