Resumo

This paper proposes an optimal dispatch algorithm of electric systems that contain hydro, thermal and photovoltaic plants with energy storage. The algorithm is able to minimize the dispatch cost and flatten the load curve simultaneously, implying intermittence mitigation and energy efficiency. The analysis focuses on two main topics: investment deferral due to increased energy efficiency and duck curve mitigation, which occurs when there is excessive photovoltaic generation during the day. This is a recurrent problem in several locations (e.g. California) and energy storage is a potential solution due to its ability to store photovoltaic energy and inject it into the grid during strategic periods. By applying the algorithm to a modified IEEE 13 node test feeder, results show that it is successful in improving the system’s operation leading to duck curve mitigations and investment deferral.
