CFD SIMULATION OF MULTIPHASE DOMAIN WITH UPWARDS VERTICALGAS INJECTION

The steelmaking operation in a Basic Oxygen Furnace converter uses an inert gas injection to optimize the carbon removal from the pig iron(post-stirring).The behavior and phenomena inherent to the flow still do not have a representative model and experiments are normally carried out for analysis purposes. However, with the advancement of numerical simulation, there is now computational power and models that can facilitate the understanding of fluid dynamics. This work aims to carry out a preliminary study of the process, seeking good practices for a simplified model, being experimentally validated. Computer modeling of the experiment were performed, and turbulence models commonly used in the industry were compared, seeking what best represents the phenomena.
