Abstract

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a key process in sustainable energy conversion through water oxidation and coordination compounds of different transition metals have attracted attention in recent years as catalysts for it. Manganese complexes also have been investigated due to their low toxicity, earth abundance, and favorable redox properties compared to other catalytic metals. In addition, manganese compounds are employed as biomimetic models for catalytic processes, including catechol oxidase activity. In this work, we synthesized a mononuclear manganese(III) complex and evaluated its catalytic performance toward both the OER and the oxidation of o-diphenols to their o-quinones. It yielded good results for both applications.
