Abstract

The abstract establishes the work as the construction of a reliable and systematic method for X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization of iron containing species. These species were chosen due to the complexity of their spectra, which derives from the overlap of spin-orbit coupling, satellite peaks and other contributions, thus, making inadequate peak assignment common in literature. Through the established method, the survey and high-resolution Fe 2p, O 1s and C1s spectra of several synthesized iron compounds were interpreted and compared, thus enabling a consistent evaluation of the coordination and surface of these materials through XPS.
