Abstract

This work features the synthesis and characterization of a novel one-dimensional copper(II)-based bis(β-amino)diacrylate derivative compound formula [Cu(hfac)2μ-{CuL}]n, where hfac is hexafluoroacetylacetonate and L is N,N’-o-phenylen-bis[2,2’-di(ethoxycarbonyl)-vinylamido]. The compound’s synthesis consists of adding the ligand precursor H2L to a boiling solution of the precursor complex [Cu(hfac)2(H2O)2]. It's structure was determined through single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which crystallizes in space group P-1 and contains three crystallographic independent copper(II) units: Cu1, Cu2 and Cu3. Cu1 is coordinated by tetradentate ligand L in a square planar geometry, bridging the hexacoordinated Cu2 and Cu3 through their axial positions by oxygen atoms from one of the ethoxycarbonyl moieties, while their equatorial positions are occupied by two bidentate hfac ligands. Cu2 and Cu3 show tetragonal distortion, with elongated axial bonds. Direct current magnetometry measurements revealed a predominantly paramagnetic behavior with weak ferromagnetic interactions. Catalytic activity tests for dye decolorization are currently underway.
