This study presents a investigation into drug delivery systems using Europium-doped Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) to improve the controlled release of ibuprofen, a Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID). By intercalating ibuprofen into the LDH layers, the drug transfers energy to the Eu3+ ions, activating their luminescent properties. As the ibuprofen is released, the corresponding changes in luminescence allow to directly monitor the drug being released and delivered in real time. This approach aims to optimize the bioavailability of NSAIDs and better advance the monitoring of their release.
