Abstract

In this study, a platinum complex analogous to nedaplatin, with the formula [Pt(ethylenediamine)(glycolate)], was synthesized and characterized, and its antitumor activity was evaluated. Data from electronic absorption spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, ¹H, ¹³C, and ¹⁹⁵Pt nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and thermal analysis confirmed the proposed empirical formula. In vitro antitumor activity was assessed against human tumor cell lines HEp-2 (human laryngeal carcinoma), NCI-H292 (human lung mucoepidermoid carcinoma), MCF-7 (human breast cancer), and HL-60 (acute promyelocytic leukemia), yielding tumor inhibition percentages of 77.1%, 81.4%, 73.0%, and 89.5%, respectively (Table 1). In vivo antitumor activity was assessed using a procedure approved by the UFPE Animal Ethics Committee (license no. 030375/2014-20) in Swiss mice (Mus musculus), resulting in an antitumor inhibition rate of 76.12% (5 mg Kg-1 dose). Based on these results, the compound shows potential as an antitumor agent, establishing a promising avenue for further research.
