Antimicrobial resistance occurs when microorganisms develop mechanisms that reduce treatment efficacy, making infections harder to combat. In this context, silver compounds stand out as promising alternatives due to their broad-spectrum action and low propensity to induce resistance. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize a novel silver complex using *trans*-cinnamic acid as a ligand. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize a novel silver complex with potential antimicrobial activity, using trans-cinnamic acid as the ligand. Bactericidal assays demonstrated activity against *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Escherichia coli* at a Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 3.40 μg mL⁻¹, compared to the positive control, silver sulfadiazine (3.13 μg mL⁻¹). The results suggest that the silver complex shows potential as an antimicrobial agent, given that its antimicrobial activity is similar to that of the complex used in clinical practice.
