A Cyamelurate-Based Platform for the Development of Cu/Ni Bimetallic Catalysts Applied to Fenton-Like Processes.

Abstract

In this work, mono- and bimetallic catalysts based on cyamelurate coordinated to copper and nickel ions were developed to investigate the effect of metal composition in Fenton-like reactions. The materials were synthesized in aqueous medium and characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, CHN elemental analysis, and AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy), and evaluated using the dye indigo carmine as a model molecule to monitor oxidative activity. The results demonstrated that the bimetallic catalyst exhibited superior performance compared to the monometallic materials, evidencing a synergistic effect between the copper and nickel centers. While the monometallic copper and nickel catalysts promoted dye degradation of 42.9% and 2.9%, respectively, the bimetallic system achieved 92.7% degradation within 20 minutes of reaction, demonstrating a significant increase in catalytic activity resulting from the combination of the two metals.The influence of pH was also investigated, and high catalytic efficiency was observed under neutral conditions.
