Secondary Metabolites from the Basidiomycete Aurantiopileus mayanensis

Mushrooms are well-known for their nutritional and culinary values, along with therapeutic and medicinal uses1. Aurantiopileus mayanensisis is a salmon-colored basidiomycete discovered in a remote cloud forest habitat in Maya Mountain in Belize that represents a new genus and species of polypore2. In the present investigation we report the first chemical assessment of A. mayanensis. Fruiting bodies of the basidiomycete were collected at Campina Grande do Sul, Paraná State. Samples were cleaned with H2O and briefly stored at 4˚C until exhaustive extraction with MeOH in a wire blender and in an ultrasonic bath. The extract was partitioned with hexane and MeOH. Both hexane and MeOH extracts were subjected to a rapid separation by normal-phase chromatography. Fractions were analyzed by HPLC-UV-MS and dereplicated. Anarcadic acid derivatives previously isolated from the plants Pentaspadon officinalis3,Ginkgo biloba4 and Homalomena occulta5 were found in the MeOH extract of the basidiomycete and identified by analysis of NMR and HRMS data. Additional metabolites are under purification and identification.
