Crie um tópicoObesity is characterized by excessive adipose tissue accumulation due to an imbalance between food consumption and energy expenditure. The abnormal accumulation of fatty acids in adipocytes stimulates the tissue macrophage infiltration and release pro-inflammatory cytokines that interfere with insulin signaling, causing decreased muscle glucose uptake and hepatic glycogen synthesis, leading to insulin resistance and the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Literature data suggest that fibers may exert anti-inflammatory activity, reducing inflammatory markers due to their dietary intake. Solanum lycocarpum St. Hill is a Brazilian fruit found in the Cerrado, popularly known as "fruta-do-Lobo" because it represents about 50% of the maned wolf's diet. The physical-chemical composition analysis of the fruta-do-Lobo showed that the flour prepared from the pulp of the fruit has 23g/100g of fiber, being considered rich in fiber. In this perspective, this work analyzed the nutritional effects of the residue obtained after the extraction of resistant starch from the fruta-do-Lobo flour in mice diet-induced obesity. Swiss mice (n=22) were randomized into three distinct groups according to the diet offered: control (AIN 93-G diet), HF (high-fat diet - 4% vegetable oil; 31% lard), and HFR (HF diet + 3% of the fruta-do-Lobo residue). The consumption of HFR for 12 weeks promoted less weight gain (8%), reduced epididymal fat (14%), decreased liver TBARS level (11%), and triglycerides (18%) compared to the obese control group (HF). Also, the intake of the HF diet supplemented with fruta-do-Lobo residue improves the insulin tolerance test (22%) compared to the obese control group (HF). These results suggest that fruta-do-Lobo residue's consumption could be beneficial as an auxiliary in obesity treatment and prevention of T2DM development.

Obrigada!
