APPLICATION OF BIOSURFACTANT OBTAINED FROM UNCONVENTIONAL CARBON SOURCE IN THE PROCESS OF PAINT REMOVAL

Favorite this paper

The Biosurfactants (BS) are compounds that present molecules with amphipathic characteristics which are enable to reduce surface tensions and promote emulsions. Thus, this study aimed to apply BS, produced by unconventional carbon sources, in the process of paint removal of metallic surface. BS was produced using 3% of the carbon source (fish waste and sugarcane bagasse, separately), mineral medium and 2% microorganism (Corynebacterium aquaticum). For the application process, metal plates were immersed in synthetic enamel paint and placed in contact with 4 different solutions (water, solvent, fish BS and sugarcane bagasse BS) for 15 d. After the application time, it was found that the water was not able to remove paint from the surface, however, the solvent, fish BS and sugarcane bagasse BS partially removed the paint from the surface of the metal plate. The sugarcane bagasse BS showed a higher paint removal than the fish BS, which in addition to removing the paint from the surface also diluted part of the paint in its contents. The paint removal process uses several solvents that are aggressive to the manipulators and the environment. The BS are an option for reduce this problem and add value to industrial waste.
