Abstract

Heavy Fermion physics has an important role to play in the unfolding discovery and understanding of quantum materials. These unique f-electron materials, discovered nearly half a century ago, continue to prove themselves as a vital test-bed for exploring the behavior of electrons at the brink of localization, where magnetic atoms behave as miniature qubits, tunably entangling on a macroscopic scale. I will discuss the current landscape of
heavy fermion physics, and the important new perspectives on quantum materials they have given rise to.
I shall discuss three areas of particular current interest: the paradoxical discovery of quantum oscillations in insulators, new perspectives on strange metal behavior and quantum criticality and the role of entanglement in heavy fermion superconductivity.
