Secondary forests are one of the major carbon sink in the Neotropics. So, accurate estimates of their contribution to the carbon cycle are a great challenge. Here, we propose a biomass growth accumulation model of secondary forest using remote sensing data, field work and age image classified. This study was performed in Santarém, Pará state in the Brazilian Amazon region. Multiple regression analysis was performed to select the best model by corrected Akaike information criterion (AICc). The best fitted models involved age image as biomass predictor. In spite of huge effort to obtain age image, we prove that this variable is essential to improve accuracy in mapping secondary forest biomass.
