Deforestation in the Amazon is a serious problem and deserves extreme attention. The satellite monitoring of heat sources performed daily by the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) to detect foci of burning vegetation is an alternative in the fight against this problem. In order to contribute to the discussion about the evaluation of the fires in the municipality of Paragominas, this study sought to carry out an analysis of the occurrence of heat sources and their correlation with the vicinity of the drainage networks and the accesses existing in the municipality. This information is of utmost importance for determining the effect of government intervention in order to contribute to reducing deforestation in the region, including forest fires and fires to clear pastures and agricultural areas. Through the remote sensing techniques used in the Arcgis 10.1 and QGIS 2.6.1 software and the results analyzed in the MS Excel spreadsheet, between 2005 and 2014, the behavior and the distribution of heat sources in higher incidence in the vicinity Of the main roads of the municipality concerned, with a fall possibly due to government efforts to adjust to the green municipalities program. The work showed that the reduction of heat sources in the observed years occurred, this decrease can have a significant impact on the reduction of greenhouse gases and the protection of biodiversity in the region.
