The chemical element uranium is a mineral of high economic value, with high solubility, facilitating its dispersion in the environment. The solubility of uranium is related to their tendency to oxidize in U6+ ions and their natural mobilization in the environment occurs through the rock weathering, by the action of water that act as powerful agents in mobilizing metal ions. Thus the laminar erosion, very common in semiarid environments due to the type of drainage, is responsible for the radioactive material entrainment. The occurrence of uranium deposit area with dissected relief enhances the dispersion of radionuclides. The geomorphological analysis is applied for the recognition and monitoring of unstable environments and stands as basic studies geomorphological mapping. The recognition of terrain features is important to determine the stability of the environment and the use of geotechnology aided by geomorphological mapping, facilitate the exploitation of spatial information, to research and becoming an important tool for the management and monitoring of uses and natural resources. This study presents the application of GIS techniques in recognition of the characteristics of the river basin where is located the match-uranífera deposit of Itataia, Ceará, Brazil, in order to monitor areas susceptible to natural contamination.
