Thermal information is relevant to various types of urban and environmental studies. Traditionally these data are obtained from meteorological stations, although the source of reference for this type of data often are scarce and / or unevenly distributed across the area of interest. At the same time, remote sensing is raising thermal data for more than 30 years with the Landsat program, and in order to validate these orbital data we attempted to compare them with data extracted from five meteorological stations distributed by the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. After carrying out pre-processing such as atmospheric correction and conversion to physical values of the thermal infrared temperature, a seasonal analysis was performed for 9 months between April 2013 and March 2014, comparing the value of the extracted temperature average of around stations from the image of the thermal infrared each date with the temperature value provided by the weather station. A high consistency of the data was seen through the elaborate graphics being the station of Santa Cruz presented the smallest difference between the extracted temperature of the thermal and the weather station, to 3 ° C.
