Abstract

Focusing on the Chinese social network TikTok, this article aims to examine the coverage of the climate tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul that occurred in May 2024, and how the clash between profiles of reference and fact-checking journalistic outlets on the platform took place in relation to content with false or dubious information. Through content analysis, the article intends to explain how the consulted profiles use the expressive possibilities of the platform, and also, what type of post is produced, according to the typology of the classification proposed by Autor (2023) for journalistic content on the platform: especially those defined as  'Small Stories' and  'Explanatory'. The work concludes by considering that climate tragedies are also disinformative tragedies, especially in the current scenario of journalism on digital platforms.
