The aim of this study was to find new matrices for the extraction of chitin, which would allow the use of ecologically correct chemical agents. The matrix chosen was BSF larvae, which were extracted in an autoclave using water as a solvent. The aqueous extract was treated with ethanol to precipitate the chitin. After analyzing the spectroscopic data, it was concluded that the methodology was efficient for extracting γ-chitin from BSF larvae, at a low cost and favoring the bioeconomy.
