Abstract

Regarding the growing need to understand the implications involved in the relationship between internet and politics, with special emphasis on the analysis of social networks, specifically Facebook, this research investigated the political use of this platform. In the 2018 Brazil’s presidential election scenario, official pages of selected candidates were selected according to predefined criteria, resulting in the collection of posts by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Fernando Haddad (PT) and Jair Messias Bolsonaro (PSL). The research question and main aim was to analyze not only the characteristics of the Internet use in campaign context by professional politicians, but to identify and understand the thematic agenda and the speech given by the selected candidates on their Facebook pages, during election and including texts, images and videos.
