ROLE OF MICROGLIAL REACTIVITY IN COGNITIVE DYSFUNCTIONS RELATED TO CHANGES IN CHOLESTEROL METABOLISM: EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is characterized by elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels caused mainly by mutations in the LDL receptor (LDLr) gene. Previous studies have shown that FH affects the integrity of the blood-brain barrier and is associated with neuroinflammation and memory impairment, but the mechanisms related to those events are still not fully understood.
