Evaluation of the daily renal function profile on hypothyroid rats

Hypothyroidism is a common thyroid dysfunction with incidence and prevalence worldwide, being associated with different complications including kidney dysfunction. Usually, hypothyroidism-induced kidney dysfunction is associated with a reduction of glomerular function and renal blood flow, as well as proteinuria development. However, the mechanisms underlying these processes are still poorly comprehended. Besides, the renal function displays a daily oscillation pattern, and it has been proposed that kidney disease is associated with the disruption of peripheral and central circadian clock rhythmicities. Our group showed that hypothyroidism impairs the circadian machinery in the heart and anterior pituitary.
