Resumo

Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental health problem. Different animal models have been useful to evaluate the molecular mechanisms underlying the anxiety-like behavior and to develop new therapeutic strategies. In this context, the endocannabinoid system emerges as a promise. The classical cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) are G protein-coupled receptors expressed in both neuronal and glial cells. On the other hand, caffeine is the most consumed psychoactive drug, and, through the antagonism of adenosine receptors, modulates anxiety. Recent works show a correlation between cannabinoid and adenosinergic receptors.
