Abstract

The Fulbright/CAPES/CNE program “Programa Brasil-Estados-Unidos de Modernização da Educação Universitária na Graduação PMEUG-EUA” is an innovative program designed to facilitate institutional connections and academic collaboration with the objective of modernizing undergraduate-level teaching of Engineering in Brazilian universities. The program is a direct result of the partnership between the U.S. Mission and the Fulbright Commission in Brazil with the Brazilian Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Programs (CAPES), the National Council of Education (CNE).
This program will fund eight projects over eight years to modernize engineering undergraduate courses in Brazil, strengthening partnerships with U.S. universities. CAPES will offer funding for teaching assistantship, project supplies, and international travel for Brazilian scholars to visit the partnering U.S. universities. The U.S. Mission and Fulbright Commission will help the eight Brazilian institutions with winning propositions (USP, PUC-PR, UFRGS, UNIFEI, UFRJ, Unisinos, UFSCar and SENAI-CIMATEC) to establish institutional links with U.S. Higher Education Institutions by bringing U.S. specialists to support the development of the projects, and also some funds for the acquisition of equipment in the first year.

Representatives from the U.S. Mission; the Fulbright Commission and Brazilian universities will provide insight on their action plans and expected outcomes of the projects.
