Abstract

Oil recourses will exhaust in the coming decades and this will have a large impact for energy supplies and also for the production of plastics. Biobased materials are the new alternative for oil based plastics. NHL Stenden is specialized in the applied research on the new so called biopolymers, biocomposites and recycling of plastics. Brazil is the best partner to cooperate in this type of research, because it has a lot of natural resources and it can offer new opportunities for economic growth in a sustainable way in the future. We will present the possibilities in this area for student exchange, professor exchange and cooperation with Brazilian companies on research projects.

NHL Stenden University already cooperates with IFPI, UFPI and IFCE. A PhD-student from UFPI recently started at NHL Stenden for a research on biocomposites.
Both insitutes have experience in the use of natural resources for biobased chemicals and materials. Especially in the field of mutal research projects there are many possitibilities.Coming year more projects for PhD-students from Brazil will be developed. Also for bachelor and master studens we offer an intensive program in the field of biobased polymers. This program will be presented and will be available for Brazilian students.

Circular Plastics
Two years ago, NHL Stenden started a new professorship Circular Plastics. In the field of recycling of plastics a lot of applied research has to been done. This also offers new opportunities in the cooperation with institutes in Brazil. Recycling of plastics is a global issue and has to be performed in an international context. Also in the field of education. A new program of 5 months has been developed in the field of circular plastics. This program contains 5 theoretical modules and 1 research project of 10 weeks. This new program will be presented and will be available for Brazilian students.
