Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is a native grass of USA used as livestock, erosion control and recently as carbon source in bioprocesses, where the main sugar is usually the glucose, presenting in its cellulosic fraction. The depolymerization of cellulose from biomass into glucose can be performed by different pre-treatments. In this work, we propose glucose sugars releasing of switchgrass by enzymatic hydrolysis, with previous biomass submitted in sequential acid-base pretreatment. The acid pre-treatment was carried out with H2SO4 1% at 160 ºC for 60 min and alkaline with NaOH 1% at 152 ºC for 30 min. The enzymatic hydrolysis was performed using 20 FPU of cellulase at 50 ºC for 72 h. The enzymatic hydrolysis showed 25.3 g\L of glucose and 40 g\L of total reducing sugar. Regarding the obtained released sugars, it is concluded that switchgrass is a promising renewable biomass for different bioprocesses.
