Ethanol 2G production from sugarcane bagasse in fluidized bed reactor

Favoritar este trabalho

Sugarcane bagasse (SB) is an abundant renewable source in Brazil due to the high ethanol and sugar production. This by-product present a hemicellulosic fraction, that can release pentose fermentable sugars for ethanol 2G production. For this production, innovations as use of immobilized cells in bioreactors are required to enhance process technology. Within this context, this work present ethanol 2G production from SB hydrolysate using immobilized cells of S. shehatae UFMG-HM 52.2 (wild C5 sugars converting yeast) in fluidized bed reactor (FBR). Fermentation in FBR was carried out using 150 g of immobilized carrier and aeration of 125 mL/min, at 30ºC for 120h. Maximum ethanol production of 10,5 g/L, YP/S of 0,23 g/g and QP of 0,11 g/L.h were achieved in 96 h of process. Results showed the potential of the proposed process, suggesting use in different process configuration and in large scale.
