Abstract

The genus of Stryphnodendron pulcherrimum presents tannins as the main chemical class of organic compounds (Santos et al., 2002). Here, we present an unprecedented proposal for dereplication for the tannin 2,2'-bis(3,4,5-trihydroxyphenyl)-[4,8'-bichromane]-3,3',5,5',7,7'-hexaol (C30H26O14) present in the Acetone/H2O (7:3) extract of S. pulcherrimum leaves. Molecular ion 609.1266 m/z [M-H]- showed fragments 441, 423, 305, and 125 (Figure 1). Fragments 441 and 423 can be obtained from the RDA between rings A and C of one of the monomers, followed by loss of H2O.The fragment 305 m/z can be obtained by the QMupper reaction described by Callemien and Collin (2008) and the fragment 125 m/z can be explained by heterocyclic ring fission and loss of a C9H8O4 unit.
