Abstract

The aim was to characterize adherence to drug treatment of patients with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and identify associated factors. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted in August 2019, approved by the Research Ethics Board at UNEB (Record No.3.471.128). Patients included were aged > 18, attended by public outpatient gastroenterology clinics and pharmacy, at Salvador/BA. Morisky-Green Test was used to classify adherence and data analyzed by Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney or Fischer's exact test using SPSS® 21.0 (p<0.05). Twenty patients met study criteria, 13 (65.0%) were non-adherent. Most participants were female [15 (75.0%)], all from urban area, 10 (50.0%) were black and 7 (35.0%) brown. Average age was 47 years, most were married [8 (40.0%)], 11 (55.0%) were evangelical. Half had completed high school and most respondents’ income was up to 2 minimum wages (70.0%). No factors (social or demographic) presented a statistically significant association with medication adherence within UC patients.
