The depth of field defines a range of distances where the objects located in that range are observed clearly.
The image fusion is used to increase the sharpness of objects that are not in the range defined by the depth of field and consists of capturing the scene, focusing the camera in different parts, to finally mix the clear areas of each capture in a single image.
This article proposes to vary a fusion method that detects the focused areas of images using grayscale mathematical morphology and then applies an Image Matting process that classifies the pixels into focused and unfocused. The variant consists of detecting the focused areas applying mathematical morphology to color.
Fusion metrics and the visual results demonstrate that the fusion of images using color mathematical morphology, in the process of detection of focused areas, generates a performance superior to its gray counterpart.
